Longwall Installation Process Becomes More Efficient: Corum Completes Testing of World’s First KNF Road Cutter System
“The fact that the solution of the problem, over which engineers had been working since the 1970s, was found and implemented by the Ukrainian specialists means that our country and our Group has a powerful design potential”, said Ildar Saleyev, Director of the Underground Mining Division. “As for the sales markets for this equipment, which was designed under the Strategic Alliance with DTEK, our key customer, they will include the countries that extract coal from thin seams. I am referring to Ukraine, Poland, China. By the way, currently, we are actively developing our business in the two last-named countries, under our strategic development plan”.
The industrial testing of the equipment was conducted in three stages, with the application of various technological operation schemes and at different coal mining facilities (Yuvileina and Stepna Mines). This approach enabled to test the equipment in different mining and geological conditions. After completing the testing, the Group’s Underground Mining Division will launch commercial manufacture of the equipment.
Information about KNF
The KNF Road Cutter System is highly productive equipment safe in operation. It is intended for cutting rectangular longwall faces. The production capacity of the system is 1.5 tonnes per minute. The equipment enables the customer to reduce the shearer installation period and speed up commissioning of longwall faces for coal extraction in thin seams. The key components of the system are a road cutter, a longwall face right-angle conveyor, a loader, a roof support.
